Mercedes-Benz is definitely the odd one out at this year’s New York International Auto Show with presenting no less than five world premieres. One of the five cars that made its world debut in New York this week is the first AMG version of the 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class. We took a closer look at what an aggressively styled E-Class looks like in the flesh.
Badged with the number 43, the new Mercedes-AMG E 43 joins AMG’s recent lineup with 3.0-liter V6 Biturbo engines. The E 43 produces 401 hp and 520 Nm of torque and comes with the 4MATIC AWD system that gives a rear biased 31:69 torque distribution. Shifting through gears is done via the fine 9G-TRONIC transmission and altogether the E 43 setup is good for a 0-100 km/h sprint in just 4.6 seconds and a governed top speed of 250 km/h.
The E 43 4MATIC comes with a refined sports suspension based off the AIR BODY CONTROL air suspension that is optional on the 2017 E-Class. As per usual, the DYNAMIC select system let’s drivers choose between five driving modes: Eco, Comfort, Sport, Sport Plus and Individual.
Visually the E 43 get’s a modest makeover compared to the regular E-Class models. The diamond grille sure makes the saloon appear more exclusive, with as finishing touch a gloss black AMG badge. 19-Inch AMG five-spoke light alloy wheels add some flair and the finished product is further intensified by the chrome-plated quad tailpipes at the rear.
Inside we find Mercedes’ trademark ARTICO man-made leather interior with contrasting top stitching. Like in the majority of the other AMG models there is no shortage of luxury and the red seatbelts weren’t left out either.
