Audi has officially added another model to their growing stable of SUVs – the 2017 Audi SQ7 TDI.
The SQ7 TDI marks the first time that Audi has released an “S” version of their flagship SUV. The SQ7 TDI features a brand-new 4.0-liter TDI engine that produces 429 hp and a whopping 664 lb-ft of torque. All of this power is fed to all four wheels via an eight speed automatic transmission.
The sprint from 0-60 mph takes just 4.8 seconds on the way to an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph.
What is even more impressive about the SQ7, however, is how it goes about producing such a monumental torque figure. In order to achieve such a high torque level, Audi employed two conventional turbochargers as well as a third, electrically powered compressor. Having an electrically powered compressor of this nature is a first in the automotive industry.
In order to power the new electrically controlled compressor Audi also fitted the SQ7 with a beefier, 48-volt electric subsystem.
No pricing details have been released for the SQ7.
