The Audi Q2 has been officially unveiled ahead of the Geneva Motor Show 2016 which starts tomorrow. Audi’s compact SUV has been a long time in the making with Audi finally securing the rights to the name earlier this year. The new car will be released at the Autumn 2016 with the order books opening mid-year.

The Audi Q2 gets a Singleframe grille in octagonal design, a low roof with color offset blades, a long roof spoiler and a diffuser. The Audi Q2 measures 1.51 meters (5.0 ft) tall and 1.79 meters (5.9 ft) wide. The overhangs are short with a vehicle length of 4.19 meters (13.7 ft) and a wheelbase of 2.60 meters (8.5 ft). It weights 1,205 kg unladen.

From launch, Audi will offer six engines; three TFSI and three TDI. The petrol engines include an efficient three-cylinder 1.0 TFSI engine with 116 hp, a 1.4 TFSI with 150 hp and cylinder deactivation and a powerful four-cylinder 2.0 TFSI engine with 190 hp. The diesel range includes a four-cylinder 1.6 liter unit with 116 hp and two 2.0 TDI engines with 150 hp and 190 hp.

At the transmission end of things, the Audi Q2 gets a six-speed manual transmission and the seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission. The 2.0 TDI and the 2.0 TFSI engines get a brand new dual clutch transmission as standard. Progressive steering is standard. The quattro permanent all-wheel drive system is standard with the top TDI and the 2.0 TFSI engines. It is an option on the 1.4 TFSI COD and the 2.0 TDI with 150 hp.

The Audi Q2 gets good visibility with a large luggage compartment expanding from 405 litres to 1,050 litres with the rear seats down. The driver sits low like a hatchback or saloon. A power tailgate and a three-way split rear bench are optional extras. A Bang & Olufsen Sound System is available with 705 watts power with 14 loudspeakers.

The Audi Q2 gets an optional Audi drive select handling system with four modes: auto, comfort, dynamic and efficiency. If you spec the MMI radio, an individual mode is added. An additional ESC Offroad mode gets an additional 20 centimetres (7.9 in) of ground clearance.

The Audi Q2 is packed with technology. Audi virtual cockpit with a head up display and a 12.3 inch screen. Audi pre sense for the front is fitted as standard. The Audi Q2 also gets adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go function, traffic jam assist, Audi side assist, Audi active lane assist, traffic sign recognition and parking and cross-traffic assist rear. The standard infotainment system can be operated by a rotary/push-button control. An MMI navigation plus with MMI touch is optional and includes a touchpad on the central control element. An app is available for smart phones, operated via a Wifi hotspot.

In terms of ordering an Audi Q2, customers get four trim levels, the base model, a design line, a sport line and the S line sport package. The S line gets colours like yellow, orange and red accents. Trim can also be offered in white plastic or brushed aluminum. Seat upholstery includes Nappa leather and LED light strips are also available for the front instrument panel and the knee pads. The Audi Q2 will be built at the main Audi plant in Ingolstadt.
