Stefano Domenicali has been announced as the new President and CEO of Lamborghini.
Current CEO Stephan Winkelmann will continue to act as CEO until March 15, at which point he will resign his position to the former boss of Ferrari’s F1 team, Stefano Domenicali.
Winkelmann joined Lamborghini back in 2005 and since has led the company through its most productive period in the company’s history. He will be leaving Lamborghini to become the head of Audi’s high-performance division quattro GmbH.
Winkelmann offered the best to his employees and company, offering the following statement regarding his departure. “I have been responsible for Lamborghini for a significant period of time in its history, and in the process have always aimed to use the brand’s potential to achieve very ambitious goals. I would like to thank everyone for this time from the bottom of my heart,” Winkelmann said.
Stefano Domenicali will leave his post as Audi’s vice president of New Business Initiatives before joining Lamborghini as CEO on March 15.
Interesting to see how a Ferrari-dude will steer the Lambo-ship. Since they are natural enemies. My fear is that he will steer it into a Ferrari type of company. However the positive aspect of this new boss is that he might involve Lambo more in racing will will lead to better technology etc. As a friend of mine said, if Domenicali does half the job Winkelmann did then Lamborghini is in safe hands.
