Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that a hydrogen fuel cell version of the GLC will be launching next year.

According to an interview with Mercedes-Benz R&D chief Dr. Thomas Weber conducted by AutoCar, Mercedes will be launching a hydrogen version of the GLC SUV next year. The release of the hydrogen powered GLC marks the first time the brand has ever sold a hydrogen fuel cell powered vehicle.

Weber confirmed that Mercedes is in the middle of the GLC’s roll-out phase at the moment.

The new model is set to be called the GLC F-Cell, although that could change before the car is released. The GLC F-Cell is expected to be offered a price point of around £50,000.

Expect to hear and see more of the GLC F-Cell later this year as Mercedes prepares for a full release of the car sometime in 2017.
