The new Mercedes-Benz E-Class has been officially unveiled at the Detroit Motor Show 2016. The executive sedan is about as close as it gets to Autonomous driving thanks to a raft of new features. We took a closer look at the new E-Class up close!

The new Mercedes-Benz E-Class debuts at Detroit in two variants. The E 200 with a four-cylinder petrol engine and the E220 d, with the new four-cylinder diesel engine. Both come with the new 9G-TRONIC nine-speed automatic transmission as standard and no manual transmission option.

What really sets the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class apart though is its technology. The most important new feature is the combination of Drive Pilot feature which uses radar to follow other cars at speeds of up to 210 km/h; Steering Pilot which takes care of the steering and Car-to-X communication which effectively learns from other cars.

The interior is pretty state of the art too with a similar setup as the new S-Class. The E-Class features a new infotainment system too with the steering wheel making use of touch sensitive controls. Even the Digital Vehicle Key uses Near Field Communication technology and allows the driver’s smartphone to be used as a vehicle key.

The full technological roundup car be read in our earlier Mercedes-Benz E-Class article. For further coverage of the Detroit Motor Show 2016, take a look at our news channel.
