Monster Energy has released a YouTube video of a drift battle featuring Daigo Saito’s Lamborghini Murcielago and Vaughn Gittin Jr.’s Mustang RTR.

The shooting took place in Niigata, Japan, in and around an abandoned Russian-themed village. The latter was earlier an amusement park and has been left deserted for over 20 years now, with the locals considering it to be a haunted place. The video was recorded there in two days with the crew undergoing a taxing schedule to get the work done.

Both Saigo and Gittin Jr. are professional drifters hailing from Japan and USA respectively. While Saigo competes in the D1 Grand Prix, Gittin Jr. plies his trades in the Formula D Series.

Saigo holds the distinction of having won both these major drifting events (Formula D in 2012 and D1GP in 2008) and his Murcielago drift car seen in the video has been created with the help of Liberty Walk. In creating it, it was entirely dissembled leaving nothing but the bodywork and the chassis. It was then installed with bespoke braking and suspension components while the 6.2-litre V12 engine has also received some upgrades lifting power to 650 hp. Furthermore, the car is now rear-wheel drive.

On the other hand, Gittin Jr. got his 2016 Mustang RTR, pushing out 550 hp from its 5.0-liter V8. In case you are wondering what his specific Mustang is about, in 2010, Gittin Jr. won his first Formula Drift Championship and launched his brand for a new generation of Mustang with the RTR, a dealer-installed package for 2010-2016 Ford Mustangs available at select Ford dealerships worldwide.
