The new Mercedes-AMG SLC has only just been released, yet we already have official details of the first AMG variant, the 2016 Mercedes-AMG SLC 43. It uses the same V6 engine as the new 450 AMG Sport models such as C450 AMG Sport, except in a smaller, lighter platform. It replaces the outgoing Mercedes-Benz SLK 55 AMG as the top of the range SLC.

First and foremost, the name requires a bit of explanation. In line with the rest of the range, the SLC model branding is self explanatory. The Mercedes-AMG branding will now be standard across all Affolterbach products. The 43 badge stands for the new AMG 3.0-litre V6 biturbo. It will also feature in upcoming Mercedes-AMG models.

The 2016 Mercedes-AMG SLC 43’s engine is a 3.0-litre V6 biturbo engine with a 9G-TRONIC gearbox. Power is rated at 367 hp between 5500-6000 rpm and 520 Nm of torque between 2000-4200 rpm. Fuel consumption is just 7.8 litres of fuel per 100 kilometres. The SLC 43 sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.7 seconds with an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h.

The 2016 Mercedes-AMG SLC 43’s AMG Dynamic Select function gives five transmission modes. An Eco mode for maximum efficiency, stop/start function and coasting. The Comfort mode blends a smooth ride with fuel-efficiency. Sport introduces more response to the package with earlier downshifts and double-declutching. Sport+ is the most extreme version, although Individual leaves the setup to the driver. A manual mode and ESP modes are also standard.

The suspension gets unique front and rear axles. At the front, the 2016 Mercedes-AMG SLC 43 gets a three-link setup with stiffer steering knuckles and an increased negative camber, together with new wishbone guide bearings. At the rear, the SLC 43 gets a four-link axel with similar modifications.

The engine and rear axle gear unit gets stiffer mountings to improve stability. AMG Ride Control is available as an option with adjustable dampers, as is the AMG limited slip differential for the rear. Brakes are high performance aluminium units with bigger discs.

AMG have also added some touches to the front and rear apron with AMG-specific exhaust tail pipes, wheel arch covers and a diamond radiator grille finished in chrome with high gloss black. The wheels are 18 inch AMG multi-spoke lightweight alloy wheels, available painted in high-gloss black.

Inside, the 2016 Mercedes-AMG SLC 43 gets a new multi function sports steering wheel in nappa leather with perforated grips and a flat bottomed section together with red contrast stitching. Black nappa leather interior and sport seats are also standard.

The new 2016 Mercedes-AMG SLC 43 will be available to order in mid-January 2016. Pricing has yet to be announced.
