Production of the brand new Mercedes-Benz GLC has just kicked off in Beijing, China as part of the German firm’s partnership with BAIC Group.

The new Mercedes-Benz GLC is being constructed in the Beijing Benz Automotive Co’s improved and enlarged facility which now has over 250,000 square metres of floor space. Prior to launching the GLC, the factory was also outfitted with a new paint shop, assembly line and body shop. The GLC joins the existing GLA crossover as the second Mercedes model produced here.

Member of the board of management of Daimler AG responsible for Greater China Hubertus Troska said “China is already our number one market for the GLA and GLK. The GLC will undoubtedly continue our SUV success story here as it tops its predecessor. The all-new GLC is also the latest proof for the tremendous development of our local production footprint. In 2015 BBAC will see for the first time ever an annual output of over 200,000 units.”

At the SUVs launch, four different variants will be offered. These are the 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC220d 4Matic, the GLC250d 4Matic, GLC250 4Matic and GLC350e 4Matic.

The Mercedes-Benz GLC is also being produced in Bremen, Germany.
