Concours of Cool 2026: When Dreams Suddenly Park Next to Each Other

By Tobias Kressmann

Every now and then, you attend an event where, within the first few minutes, you realize you’re experiencing something special.

A few weeks ago, the second edition of Concours of Cool took place at the Drivers & Business Club in Munich. An event that deliberately takes a different approach. No stiff concours etiquette, no barriers between people and machines. Just a relaxed atmosphere where the cars take center stage—and what a lineup it was.

From the moment you stepped onto the grounds, it was difficult to know where to look first.

A McLaren F1. Next to it, a Ferrari F40 GT. Just a few steps away, a Maserati MC12 GT1. A Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR road car. A Lamborghini Diablo GTR. A Miura. A Gumpert Apollo S. And, as if that wasn’t enough, a McLaren P1 finished in stunning Amethyst Black, a color that seemed to shift personality with every change of light.

What made it even more remarkable wasn’t just the quality of the cars, but how naturally they all shared the same space. Vehicles that would normally headline an entire event on their own were simply part of the scenery here.

The GT1 Era, Brought to Life

The organizers set themselves a goal that initially sounded almost impossible: to bring together the most significant machines from the legendary GT1 era.

And for a moment, it genuinely felt like stepping back into the late 1990s—a time when manufacturers built outrageous homologation specials simply to qualify for racing.

Among all the highlights, one car seemed to attract people like a magnet.

The Lamborghini Even Many Lamborghini Enthusiasts Have Never Seen

The 1998 Lamborghini Diablo GT1 Stradale is one of those cars that even dedicated enthusiasts usually only know from old magazine articles and grainy photographs.

Its story is one of the most fascinating of the GT1 era. To comply with GT1 homologation regulations, at least one road-going example had to exist. The result was this extraordinary machine: the one-off road-legal version of Lamborghini’s Diablo GT1 race car.

Standing in front of it is a strange experience. On one hand, it’s unmistakably a Diablo. On the other, it feels like an entirely different species. Lower, wider, more aggressive. More Le Mans than boulevard.

You find yourself staring at its proportions and wondering just how wild that era really was. A time when manufacturers built cars with almost no compromises, and whose very existence was justified by a desire to go racing.

That’s What This Event Is About

Concours of Cool isn’t defined by trophies or judging sheets. It’s defined by moments like these.

The conversations that happen naturally around the cars. The chance encounters with fellow enthusiasts. The experience of finally seeing machines in person that you’ve admired for years through books, magazines, and screens.

And that’s exactly what Concours of Cool delivered.

Because how often do you get the opportunity to see a McLaren F1, Ferrari F40 GT, Maserati MC12 GT1, Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR, and Lamborghini Diablo GT1 Stradale gathered in one place?

Exactly.

Sometimes you don’t need a grand stage.

Sometimes all you need are the right cars.

And Concours of Cool had plenty of them.
