It has emerged that 2017 will be the final year of production for the iconic Dodge Viper.

The American supercar will be canned when the company’s Conner Avenue factory is closed down, reports Allpar. If these reports are accurate, then it means that the VX-generation Dodge Viper will be scrapped after a five year production run which is about in line with the runs of previous-generation Vipers.

It remains to be seen if Dodge is planning a replacement for the Viper or if it will instead be killed off for good. Whatever the case may be, it will be fondly remembered for its impressive performance and driver-focused attitude.

The current Viper utilises a 8.4-litre naturally-aspirated V10 engine delivering 640 hp at 6150 rpn and 600 lb-ft of torque at 4950 rpm. When the current model was launched, it was dubbed the SRT Viper but for the 2015 model year, SRT was scrapped as a standalone brand and the car was renamed the Dodge Viper SRT. Additionally horsepower rose to 5 hp for 2015 with a number of different variations also now available.

One of the most interesting Viper versions available is the Viper GTC which offers 50 million different build combinations.
