Silversea Cruises has just announced that its Silver Cloud ship will be added to the company’s luxury expedition fleet and undergo an extensive refurbishment in late 2017.
The refurbishments kicking off in August 2017 will see Silver Cloud transformed into an expedition ship visiting some of the most inhospitable and coldest places in the world. Once the modifications to the ship are completed, it will accommodate 260 guests with that figure reducing to 200 for Arctic and Antarctic journeys.
When Silver Cloud relaunches in November 2017, it will be the world’s only ice-class luxury expedition ship offering five dining options. They will be The Dining Room, the Relais & Chateaux restaurant, La Terrazza, The Grill as well as a number of in-suite dining options. The ship will also have an almost one to one staff-to-guest ratio to provide the best possible stay to all holiday-goers.
Additionally, Silver Cloud will be outfitted with 18 Zodiac crafts for up-close journeys.
Discussing the ship’s upcoming overhaul, general manager and director sales/market for Australasiaat Silversea Karen Christiensen said “Silver Explorer’s polar expedition cruises have proven hugely popular with our guests. By converting Silver Cloud into an ice-class ship for our expedition fleet, we will be better positioned to meet the increasing demand for comfortable adventure travel, particularly to the Arctic and Antarctica, destinations that are best explored by small ships specially equipped with ice-strengthened hulls.”
