While official details about Adrian Newey’s reported supercar aren’t available, the latest word on the street is that it could be a fully-electric vehicle and launched in 2018.

It is claimed that the famed Formula One engineer is working with Aston Martin and Red Bull for his road car project and it comes as part of his role within Red Bull Technologies which allows him to work on his very own projects. In typical Newey style, he is reportedly only interested in creating the car if it breaks technical ground in a similar vein to how the McLaren F1 did.

As it won’t be revealed before 2018, Newey isn’t keen on producing a plug-in hybrid in a similar vein to the Porsche 918 Spyder, Ferrari LaFerrari and McLaren P1. Instead, Newey’s more interested in electric technologies in an attempt to create the world’s best electric hypercar.

Previously discussing Newey’s project, Red Bull Racing boss Christian Horner said “It’s something that Adrian is keen to do as a legacy project. At the moment our focus is on being a Formula 1 constructor, but as we see more technology cross over with the road car market, it’s something that will organically grow.”
