The 2016 Ferrari 488 Spider has been snapped in the flesh for the very first time in China before its world debut at next week’s IAA Frankfurt Motor Show 2015. This particular 488 Spider is painted in a stunning shade of pearl white (Bianco Avus) and looks immensely more impressive in these live shots as opposed to the Italian marque’s official images of the car.
Underneath, the Ferrari 488 Spider remains largely the same as its Coupe counterpart. With a 3.9-litre turbocharged V8, a maximum power output of 662 hp, maximum torque of 760 Nm at 3000 rpm and a 0 to 100 km/h time of 3 seconds, it’s not short of performance. To create that classic supercar atmosphere, exhaust headers with longer, equal-length piping and a flat-plane crankshaft have been developed.
In terms of aerodynamics, the Ferrari 488 Spider gets a blown spoiler and an aerodynamic underbody incorporating vortex generators. The electric glass rear wind stop can be adjusted to one of three positions for a blend of comfort and sensation. The Spider’s space frame chassis is constructed from 11 different aluminium alloys for a 23% improvement in stiffness over that of its predecessor.
Electronic systems such as the SSC2 Side Slip Angle Control System also assist in creating 12% faster acceleration out of corners than the 458 Spider.
