Not long after being spied testing for the very first time, a number of images of the upcoming Volvo S90 have leaked online in scale model guise. Swedish media reports that the S90 presented is in fact the real deal.

From a design standpoint, we can see that the Volvo S90 has been inspired by the Volvo Concept Coupe with a set of nearly identical headlights. Additionally, a front grille very similar to the Concept Coupe is present. Elsewhere, we can see a set of simple five-spoke silver wheels, a sunroof as well as a roof which begins to slope back quite aggressively after the front doors and resulting in a small rear decklid.

Volvo S90 leaked model rear

At the rear, we can see that the Volvo S90 features very large taillights unlike any other we’ve seen. At the moment, we’re not convinced by them but they could be out of proportion on this small model.

When the Volvo S90 launches, it will replace the aging S80 and rival the BMW 5-Series. The engine line-up for the Volvo S90 remains unconfirmed but reports suggest that it will be essentially identical to the XC90 in what engines are offered. If that is the case, a plug-in hybrid version will be offered and delivering just under 400 hp.

Elsewhere, the S90 will make use of similar technologies found in the brand new XC90 with a number of differently appointed variants also likely. While recently speaking about the S90, the marque’s vice president of product strategy, Lex Kerssemakers confirmed that the success of the new XC90 will influence the S90.
