Maserati MC12 auction front

A 2005 Maserati MC12 is expected to sell for between $1.5 million and $1.9 million when it crosses the auction block on Thursday as part of RM Sotheby’s ‘The Pinnacle Portfolio’.

This MC12 is number 31 of just 50 units ever created. For the uninitiated, the MC12 is of course based around the Ferrari Enzo but as the production figures suggest, is significantly rarer. Powering the car is the same 6.0-litre V12 as the Enzo and thanks to the more than adequate 630 hp it delivers, the MC12 can accelerate to 100 km/h from a standstill in just 3.8 seconds and onto a 330 km/h top speed.

The car was originally sold to an enthusiast and collector from New York and federalised for street use in the United States. Despite the original owner’s appetite for track driving, his MC12 saw little use and instead spent much of its time at various concours events where it ultimately won Best in Class honours at the Manhasset Concours d’Elegance in 2007.

The current owner purchased the Italian supercar in 2011 and has only driven it 40 km since. All up, it features 767 km on the odometer.
