Valtteri-Bottas_28093491

According to reports from the Italian press, Ferrari is planning to buy Valtteri Bottas out of his existing Williams contract for the 2016 season and onwards.

The Finnish driver is considered as one of the sport’s rising stars and has been linked to a move to Ferrari in the past. If these latest rumours prove to be true, he will replace Kimi Raikkonen who has underperformed in the Ferrari both this year and in 2014.

It is reported that Ferrari’s deal with Williams is worth 12 million euros and that no official announcement will come before July 31. That’s the deadline where Ferrari will have to choose whether or not to keep Raikkonen on board for next year.

If Bottas does join Ferrari, it is inevitable that Raikkonen would call an end to his decorated career after previously confirming that Ferrari will be the last team he races for.

Discussing the reports, a Williams spokesperson said “We don’t ever comment on our contracts, this particularly applies to driver contracts so we have nothing further to add to this.”
