Koenigsegg Enters Partnership with Castrol EDGE

Leading Swedish supercar manufacturer Koenigsegg has just announced a brand new partnership with Castrol. As part of the collaboration, Castrol Edge will exclusively provide the lubricants for the exceptionally potent Koenigsegg One:1 megacar.

Discussing the effectiveness of Castrol, Koenigsegg chief executive Christian von Koenigsegg said “We accept no compromises when we design a new car at Koenigsegg. We demand an engine oil that is developed with the same extreme performance in mind. After exhaustive testing during the development of the One:1, we knew that Castrol EDGE was the right oil to protect our engines. Our cars are designed to be pushed to extreme levels of performance and only Castrol EDGE provides the extreme strength we need.”

As the world’s first megacar, it is hardly surprising that Koenigsegg put so much thought into what engine oil it elects to ship its One:1s with.

Beneath the skin, the Koenigsegg One:1’s twin-turbocharged V8 delivers 1360 hp and 1371 Nm of torque. When combined with an overall weight of just 1360 kg, the One:1 features a perfect 1 hp to 1 kg power to weight ratio. The only other production car to achieve such a figure is the Hennessey Venom GT.

The Koenigsegg One:1 is expected to reach speeds in excess of 450 km/h so aerodynamics are key to the One:1 package. Thanks to the new front facia and the Le Mans prototype inspired rear wing, downforce at 260 km/h is equal to 610 kg whilst at 440km/h, the One:1 develops 830 kg. The One:1 is able to pull 2G’s of force in the corners!

“Koenigsegg Automotive AB is pleased to announce a new partnership with one of the world’s leading providers of performance lubricants, Castrol. Under this partnership, Castrol EDGE will be the exclusive provider of performance lubricants for the Koenigsegg One:1 Megacar.

We at Koenigsegg are driven by the relentless pursuit of a single goal – to design and build the world’s greatest performance cars. We leave no stone unturned and accept no compromises when it comes to delivering on that promise.

The Koenigsegg One:1 is our most recent step in delivering on that promise – the world’s first production car to have a perfect 1:1 power-to-weight ratio. Our bespoke, twin-turbocharged V8 engine produces an astonishing 1,360hp, or one megawatt, of power. That prodigious output is matched by a curb weight of just 1,360kg complete with a 50% fuel load and 100% of oil and other fluids.

The 1,360 hp produced by the Koenigsegg One:1 is equal to 1 megawatt of power, making the One:1 the world’s first Megacar in serial production. A limited edition of six production One:1 cars and one development prototype have been produced. All have been sold, including the prototype. This development car has seen extensive testing at Suzuka Circuit and Spa Francorchamps, as well as an astonishing 0-300-0 km/h time of just 17.95 seconds at Koenigsegg’s own test track in Ängelholm, Sweden.

The One:1 is truly a revolutionary car that takes the performance ceiling for road cars to heights previously unimagined.

Christian von Koenigsegg, CEO and founder of Koenigsegg Automotive AB:

“We accept no compromises when we design a new car at Koenigsegg.

The unique TITANIUM FST™ in Castrol EDGE physically changes the way oil behaves under extreme pressures. The titanium technology in TITANIUM FST™ is bonded to a polymer backbone. This makes the titanium soluble in the oil. This helps it work in unison with the Fluid Strength Technology™ previously pioneered in Castrol EDGE to deliver a step change in oil film strength and help engines perform at their best.

Tribological tests have shown that Castrol EDGE boosted with TITANIUM FST™ doubles its film strength, preventing oil film break down and reducing friction to help maximize engine performance

Both Koenigsegg and Castrol work according to an ethos that accepts only the best in performance. The two companies look forward to working together to continually improve their products in the future, reaching new heights in performance motoring and engine lubrication.”
