Honda Civic Type R production begins

Production of the 2015 Honda Civic Type R has just kicked off at the Japanese marque’s production facility in Swindon, UK.

The first three customer-bound Civic Type Rs produced have been painted in dark blue, red and white to recognise the hot hatchbacks U.K. heritage. Production of the car kicks off just after it was announced that waiting lists for the new Type R were on the rise with the order books in the UK already filled until February 2016.

Discussing the start of production, managing director at Honda of UK Manufacturing, Soichiro Takizawa said “The new Civic Type R is an imperative model for Honda, representing our racing spirit and demonstrating our commitment to innovation and passion. We are extremely proud to be the only manufacturer of the Civic Type R in the world. Our high standards have earned us this privilege and this is testament to the continued commitment of our Associates.”

The 2015 Honda Civic Type R uses a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine which is turbocharged and consequently delivers 306 hp. This means the car will launch itself from 0-96 km/h in a handsome 5.7-seconds. What’s even more impressive is the speed at which the Type R can be pushed to. This front-wheel-drive Japanese speed machine will not stop until 269 km/h!
