Renault Alpine teased before 24 Hours of Le Mans 2015

Renault has just given the first official hint that its long-awaited Alpine sports car will debut on Saturday at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. In the lead-up to the unveiling of the car, a countdown clock has been posted on the official Alpine cars website.

It is reported that the Alpine will debut in near-production guise in the form of a concept. However, it should be followed by the road-going car later this year or in early 2016. Whenever the road car is revealed, it should go on sale in the middle of next year.

While details about the car remain scarce, it could be dubbed the AS1, standing for Alpine Sport 1. A number of different versions are also tipped to be offered with the entry-level car starting at around 30,000 euros and the range-topper priced at 35,000 euros depending on the options ordered.

As for power, a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder could be featured and tuned to pump out an impressive 250 hp. When combined with an overall weight of just 1100 kg, the Alpine Sport 1 should be quite brisk off the line and through the corners.
