Facelifted BMW 3-Series

A new prototype of the facelifted BMW 3-Series has been spied testing with this particular prototype believed to be fitted with the optional M Sport Package.

Compared to the regular facelifted 3-Series, the M Sport Package equipped models will feature slightly more aggressive front and rear bumpers as well as extended side skirts and some M badging throughout the interior. Other visual changes set to be featured across the new 3-Series line-up will be tweaked headlights and taillights.

Beneath the skin, a number of the four-cylinder and six-cylinder engines currently available will be carried over to the facelifted model. Importantly however will be the addition of two brand new powertrain options. The first will be a Mini-sourced 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine powering the rear wheels.

Additionally, the facelifted BMW 3-Series will be available as a plug-in hybrid for the first time. That hybrid system will combine a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine mated to an electric motor and delivering a total of 245 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. Power will be sent via an eight-speed Steptronic transmission and the car will feature an electric-only range of about 35 km.
