Porsche Macan Rivalling Alfa Romeo SUV Due in 2016

An Alfa Romeo SUV set to rival the likes of the Audi Q6, BMW X3 and Porsche Macan is on the cards and pinned to launch in 2016.

The Italian firm is so keen to enter the market because the entry-level premium SUV market is the fast-growing sector for SUVs. Alfa Romeo is set to offer a selection of different four and six-cylinder engines for its SUV with a range topping turbocharged V6 pinned to deliver an absolutely epic 500 hp. Elsewhere, a potent diesel engine will deliver around 350 hp which eclipses the 309 hp delivered by the Audi SQ5.

The car will be based on Alfa Romeo’s latest rear/four-wheel drive architecture and could feature a 50:50 weight distribution to provide an extremely well handling car.

As you would expect from any Alfa Romeo model, the styling of the SUV will be a key focus as this rendering shows. Auto Express believes that it will feature a lower slung roofline than its German rivals as well as a sharp nose and large wheel arches.

Beyond this new small premium SUV, the Italian marque is also planning another SUV. Believed to be similar in size to the Volvo XC90, that car will feature the same platform as the smaller SUV.
