Second Generation BMW X1 Could Receive M Variant

BMW has confirmed that there’s a possibility the next-generation BMW X1 will receive a range-topping M rival.

If created, the BMW X1 M would rival the likes of the Audi RS Q3 and Mercedes-Benz GLA 45 AMG. While speaking with BMW M performance arm sales boss Jorg Bartels, Car Advice discovered that despite Bartels not speaking specifically about new models, all BMW cars can receive M variants.

“I will say again what the boss of BMW M has stated in the past – all BMWs are eligible for an M model,” he said. “We will see how Audi and Mercedes go with that.”
