The Broadmoor Pikes Peak Hill Climb, the second oldest motorsports event in American history, will celebrate its 92nd running this year. If you’re unaware of Pikes Peak, it is an extremely demanding time-attack style event which sees all sorts of different cars attempt to race up the 20 km road course leading up to the summit of Pikes Peak in Colorado, USA. This year though, Pikes Peak will see the addition of another event, the Pikes Peak Airstrip Attack, set to be held at the Colorado Springs Airport.
The Airstrip Attack will be a half-mile side-by-side roll race and trap speed competition for the most powerful and fastest road-legal street cars in America. Thousands of automotive and speed enthusiasts are expected to descend upon the Colorado Springs Airport for the event, which is located about 6,000 ft above sea level, giving the event’s winner the aptly named title of “Mile High Victor”.
The Airstrip Attack will commence on Friday, June 27 with a day of open runs and practice sessions, along with qualifying and the start of the first ever Pikes Peak Airstrip Attack trap speed competition. The top three competitors in each class will then be awarded with their respective trophies. The event ends on Saturday June 28 after more qualifying runs and the roll-race competition are complete.
More information on the Pikes Peak Airstrip Attack can be found on the event’s website. Participant registration opens on April 28th and can be complete through the site.
