The Black Series of vehicles from Mercedes can be accurately described as somewhat bonkers in terms of sheer performance, noise and attitude. And that’s a good thing.
For those prospective buyers in the United States looking for an American muscle car with a bit more of a German flair, Mercedes have announced the pricing for their 2014 SLS AMG Black Series. According to the official release, the 2014 SLS Black will start at $275,000 (plus an $1,800 destination charge). The car will go on sale early next month, although no word on whether or not the car is already sold out.
Mercedes is quick to point at the race born pedigree of the SLS Black Series, citing that much of its development is derived straight from the SLS AMG GT3 racecar. The Black edition is powered by the same 6.2-liter V8 engine, but power is increased to 622 hp and 468 lb-ft of torque. This increase in both power and torque helps rocket the car from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds onwards to a top speed of 196 mph.
We reported on the rumor that the SLS Black Series was to have a rumored 650 hp and we weren’t far off. Expect to start seeing the craziest Mercedes of them all on U.S. roads later this year.
