Video: Driving the Le Mans Winning Bentley Speed 8

Driving an Le Mans prototype is an extremely rare opportunity which very few get the chance to do, but Autocar’s Steve Sutcliffe was able to go even one step further being given the chance to drive the Le Mans winning Bentley Speed 8 which won the 2003 Le Mans 24 Hours event.

The following video was shot at the Angelsey race track in Wales and while Bentley had asked Sutcliffe to not push the Bentley Speed 8 to hard and the fact that its tires were almost completely worn out, the incredible speed the Le Mans racer can pull through some of the high-g force corners is simply incredible. And after taking one quite look at the spec sheet, it’s little wonder why the Bentley Speed 8 is so brutally quick.

Powering the Bentley Speed 8 is a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine producing around 615hp. While that may not sound all that impressive, the Bentley Speed 8 is extremely light and can consequently hit a Lamborghini Aventador equalling top speed of 217mph. What’s even more impressive is that it can hit 97mph in first gear!

The following clip includes some incredible imagery of this legendary Le Mans racing car, with a selection of onboard camera helping to ensure we too get directly behind the wheel of this Bentley Speed 8!
