Audi has officially revealed the 2015 Audi S3 Sedan as the flagship model of the new Audi A3 Sedan range. Both cars will make their official debut at the New York Auto Show 2013. Audi had showed us the Audi showed the A3 e-tron in Geneva with a power train of combined 204 hp and 258 lb-ft torque. The new Audi S3 will stock 300PS and 380 Nm of torque.
Being the flagship model for the new saloon range, the Audi S3 sedan will sport S-specific treatments starting with the bumpers, single frame grille, air intakes, exterior mirror housings, side sills and rear spoiler. The rear will sport four chrome-trimmed oval tailpipes fixed unto the diffuser. In the interior, the S3 Saloon is set apart by S sports seats, instruments with grey dials and trim strips in black 3D look.
The Audi S3 sedan will be powered by a 2.0-litre TFSI engine that produces 300PS and 380 Nm (280.27 lb ft) of torque with technology such as dual fuel injection, exhaust manifold integrated in the cylinder head, the Audi valvelift system and a rotary valve module for thermal management. The powerhouse will be mated to an S tronic transmission and aided by th quattro all-wheel-drive system based on a multi-plate clutch system.
The result will be a naught to 62mph sprint time of 4.9 seconds but with the standard manual transmission it will need 5.3 seconds, the top speed is electronically limited to 155mph but fuel economy stable at 40.9mpg with S tronic transmission and 40.4mpg where the manual gearbox is fitted.
The car is lowered by 25mm thanks to the S-specific sports suspension ensuring proper cornering, while the electrically assisted variable ratio steering provides the right degree of weighting and feedback for every situation. There are large high performance brakes with 340mm front discs that deliver high performance stopping power at any speed.
The technology in the new Audi S3 Sedan defines the engineers perfection, treated in a similar manner to other S-line cars the new S3 sports an optional Audi magnetic ride damper control with its magnetorheological fluid-filled dampers. The Audi magnetic ride is controllable via the standard Audi drive select vehicle dynamics system with five modes namely Comfort, Auto, Dynamic, Efficiency and Individual setting.
The efficiency mode lives to its name by setting minimal output of various modes such as climate control and others that consume much energy and once the alternator reads that more fuel is conserved.
Other than the S3, the A3 sedan range will come in various power trains namely a 1.4-litre TFSI 140PS engine, a 1.8-litre TFSI that produces 180PS and 250 Nm (184.39 lb-ft) of torque and a 2.0-litre TDI producing 150PS and 320 Nm (236.02 lb-ft) of torque. There will also be a new A3 Sportback with a plug-in gasoline electric hybrid (PHEV) model in the U.S. market.
The A3 sedans will be available in the UK market in the autumn of 2013 while the S3 sedans will come later, in early 2014.
