In a move that will unquestionably upset many European petrol heads, Ford has confirmed that the next-generation Mustang heading to Europe in 2015 will be offered with a 2.3-liter version of the Focus ST’s engine after admitting that sales of V8s will be limited.
This four-cylinder turbo produces an impressive 247hp in the Ford Focus ST, but in order to shift the Ford Mustang’s heavier weight quickly, company insiders believe the Ford will tinker with the 2.3-liter unit until it produces at least 300hp.
By a similar token, it’s extremely unlikely that Europe will have such a large range of Ford Mustang variants to choose from, as Ford understandably wants to keep some of its best future Mustang creations on home soil.
