Report: Porsche Aiming For Sub-7 Minute Nurburgring Time With the 918 Spyder

Reports are circulating that suggest Porsche has set a Sub-7 Minute Nurburgring goal for the Porsche 918 Spyder. The news comes directly from Matthias Müller, Porsche’s CEO during an interview he gave to Motor Trend at the 2012 Paris Motor Show. During the interview he also hinted at a new, powerful hybrid drivetrain for the Cayenne and a facelift for the entire model range.

Porsche now has the Nurburging major automobile manufacturers record in its sights. It’s currently held by the Dodge Viper ACR, however, Porsche came close recently with a 7:14 time in the Porsche 918 Spyder. Müller, when asked how fast he believed the 918 Spyder would go, replied, “if we’re lucky, it will be under 7 minutes… but I don’t know, we’ll see.”

The current production car record sits at 6:48, set by the Radical SR8 LM. We don’t expect the Spyder to even come close to that record!
