IAA 2011 Johnny English Reborn Rolls-Royce Phantom Coupé V16

One of the most remarkable cars on display at the 2011 IAA Frankfurt Motor Show is the Rolls-Royce Phantom Coupe V16. The one-of-a-kind Rolls-Royce Phantom Coupé called ‘Royce’ is the star in the movie Johnny English Reborn starring Rowan Atkinson.

The production version of the Rolls Royce Phantom Coupe is powered 6.75-liter V12 engine that produces 453bhp and 720Nm of torque. The engine is derived from BMW’s N73 V12 power plant and is also assembled by the Germans.

But BMW originally intended to use a 9.0 liter V16 engine in the Phantom as they wanted the ultimate engine for the ultimate luxury car of the 21st century. BMW designed and developed several examples of the V16 but at the last moment BMW decided use a more economical V12 engine.

This V16 engine was previously used in the concept Rolls-Royce 100EX. The British manufacturer had a few of these engines lying around at the factory. Being a true petrol head, Rowan Atkinson asked Rolls-Royce if he could use one of them for Johnny English Reborn and the engineers at Rolls Royce obliged, making this Phantom Coupe truly an one-of-a-kind car.
