Despite being less powerful than the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG which it replaces, the new Mercedes-AMG GT S has proven itself time and time again to actually be quicker than its predecessor both in a straight line and around a race track. In case you needed reminding of just how impressive the vehicle is, it was recently pitted against an Audi RS7 Sportback in a rolling drag race.
On paper, the twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 engine of the RS7 Sportback has the power advantage with 560 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque on tap. By comparison, the Mercedes-AMG GT S’ twin-turbo V8 delivers 510 hp and 479 lb-ft. While it is down on power and torque, it weighs almost 400 kg less than the RS7 so has the power-to-weight advantage.
