Potential Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series Spied at the Nurburgring

Mercedes-AMG-GT-Black-Series-2

The most convincing pictures of the upcoming Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series have emerged as a test mule recently hit the famous Nurburgring Nordschleife during its current round of developmental testing.

Compared to the existing AMG GT variants, including those with the optional Edition 1 aerodynamics package, the car pictured is quite clearly a more hardcore model. For example, it features a new front splitter as well as flared front and rear wheel arches. Additionally, aggressive fins are featured on the front wheel arches while at the rear, a prominent fixed wing sets this prototype apart from all other AMG GT models.

Interestingly, Mercedes-AMG boss Tobias Moers confirmed to Autocar earlier in the month that the Black Series moniker is currently on hold and won’t be used for a new Mercedes-AMG model in the near future. Nevertheless, Moers did confirm that an AMG GT Black Series model would be launched eventually but there’s a possibility this prototype might not be it.

As a matter of fact, there’s a chance the AMG GT pictured could be the German marque’s rival to the Porsche 911 GT3 and potentially sitting below any possible Black Series variant in the model range.

Whatever the case may be, Mercedes-Benz clearly thinks the AMG GT can target and beat out its closest and fiercest rivals and will reveal a number of variants to prove it.
