A slew of new spy photos of Mercedes-Benz’s upcoming GLE63 AMG Coupe have surfaced online, allowing us to see the all-new SUV in near-production guise ahead of its debut at the Detroit Motor Show 2015 in January.
These prototypes are both AMG models, evidenced by the more aggressive front fascia, single-bar grille, sportier wheels, vented hood and quad-exit exhaust tips. Under the hood of the SUV will be AMG’s 5.5-liter twin turbocharged V8, which produces 577 horsepower and 664 lb-ft in applications like the 2015 S63 AMG. There was talk of AMG’s new 4.0-liter V8 finding a place in the GLE63, but the firm has reportedly elected to stay with the 5.5.
The high performance GLE AMG variant is expected to be introduced in Detroit, along with standard V6 models and possibly, the rumoured hybrid model. More details on Mercedes’ new BMW X6-fighter will become clear as its debut in early January begins to draw closer.
