A rare 1970 Pontiac Firebird complete with a twin-turbocharged engine is set to go under the hammer at the Mecum Auctions Chicago sales later this week.

While horsepower or torque figures for the engine aren’t known, the massive 480 cubic-inch V8 engine has been topped off with twin 66 mm Bullseye turbochargers. It also features a custom air-to-air intercooler, a custom billet Visner intake manifold, custom plumbing, stainless steel headers, a new X-pipe and 3-inch Magnaflow mufflers.

This potent engine is mated to a Rockland Tranzilla T56 6-speed manual transmission and a twin disc clutch with a Kiesler shifter. Further changes include new disc brakes, master cylinder, upper and lower control arms, upgraded Detroit Speed 4-link rear sway bar and a custom fabricated steel aero package.
