BMW X4 at the New York Auto Show 2014

BMW‘s niche creation program continues with the BMW X4 it unveiled at the New York Auto Show 2014 this week. The car was officially unveiled following the hustle and bustle of the Geneva Motor Show last month but made its world debut only recently. We secured some live photos of the car on display.

Its perhaps best to look at the BMW X4 as a cheaper version of the BMW X6. Whilst the X6 adds some coupe style to the BMW X5, the X4 does the same for the BMW X3. BMW describe it as a Sports Activity Coupe. The front end is pretty much identical to the BMW X3, whereas the rear takes its cues from the X6 with a sloping roofline and a bonnet lip on the rear hatchback.

Occupants in the BMW X4 sit lower by 0.8 inch up front and 1.1 inches at the rear. The BMW X4 is 1.5 inches lower and 0.6 inches longer. Two versions are available with a standard model and an M-Sport upgrade featuring the usual more aggressive front and rear facias.

Models include the BMW X4 xDrive20i with a 184 hp 2.0 litre 4-cylinder, the BMW X4 xDrive28i with 245 hp and the range topping BMW X4 xDrive35i with its 3.0 litre 6-cylinder 306 hp unit. Diesel power plants include the BMW X4 xDrive20d with its 190 hp 4-cylinder engine, the BMW X4 xDrive30d with its 258 hp 3.0 litre 6-cylinder engine and the BMW X4 xDrive35d with its 306 hp 6-cylinder engine.
