2014 Porsche 911 GT3 Will “Still be hardcore” Despite PDK-Only

Porsche 991 GT3

Ever since confirmation came out that the 2014 Porsche 911 GT3 would only be offered with a PDK transmission, automotive enthusiasts around the globe were understandably concerned that the new car wouldn’t offer the thrills or overall driving experience of the previous generation car.

However, according to Porsche’s high-performance car managed Andreas Preuninger, the 2014 Porsche 911 GT3 is actually more exciting than the out-going car.

“I like my 911s pure and hardcore,” said Preuninger. “I like to really work for my fun. The gearbox had me convinced within 150 metres – and you will be too.

“This decision is not just about performance. We wanted the most emotional car with the most driver involvement we could produce, because nobody needs a GT3. What we’ve ended up with is a system that feels like a full-on race car sequential transmission. We honestly believe that there’s nothing a traditional manual gearbox can give you that this PDK can’t,” concluded Preuninger.

Porsche may not be able to think of anything a manual gearbox can offer its PDK system can’t, but the simple lack of a clutch pedal seems like quite a downside for us!
