Mazda and Fiat Final Agreement to Build New Alfa Romeo Spider in Hiroshima

Pininfarina Alfa Romeo Spider

Pininfarina presented a concept of the Alfa Romeo Spider at the Geneva Motor Show 2010, which they named 2uettottanta. The latest developments on this particular model include a recent non-binding memorandum of understanding signed by Fiat and Mazda for the joint development and production of a new roadster for the Alfa Romeo and Mazda brands.

Another interesting point is a final agreement stating that Mazda will produce an open-top two-seater sports car at its Hiroshima plant from 2015. This means that the new Alfa Romeo Roadster will be based on the architecture of the fourth generation Mazda MX-5. The roadster will hence be a rear wheel drive car; official information also shows that new roadsters will sport a brand-specific design and each company’s own engines.
