Having showed you the original 1966 Batmobile and reports of how it would be auctioned, its moment arrived at the Barrett-Jackson Auctions where the car made a record of the most expensive car ever at the Barrett-Jackson; it was auctioned for a thundering $4,620,000. The car is a one-off 1955 Lincoln Futura concept car originally built by Ford Motor Company lead stylists Bill Schmidt, Doug Poole Sr. and John Najjar.
Ghia Body works from Turin Italy built it by hand in 1954 at a cost of $250,000. The car went on to be revealed at the 1955 Chicago Auto Show in a pearlescent Frost-Blue white paint finish. The final design project would later go to George Barris who was contracted by 20th Century Fox Television and William Dozier’s Greenway Productions.
