Rumours are circulating that suggest Mercedes-Benz will unveil a diesel engined SLS AMG at the Paris Motor Show in September. The rumour started with Polish site Moto.pl and seems to have been met with ridicule by the majority of news outlets. Rumoured specs place the diesel SLS as having a six-cylinder engine with a triple turbocharger putting out around 400hp.
Jalopnik reminds us that Audi once had a go at this with the Audi R8 V12 TDI Le Mans. That wasn’t altogether successful, perhaps Mercedes-Benz want to prove that it can work. To us, the idea of a 400hp six-cylinder diesel engine in the flagship SLS sounds absolutely absurd! Lets hope it never happens!
Our sources suggest that if a Diesel Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG is coming to Paris, it will feature a V8 engine producing a nice round torque figure of 1,000Nm!
