Official: Audi S4 Facelift

Audi has updated their mid-range A4 and S4 for the 2012 model year. The company’s most popular model range received an overhaul to take on the new BMW 3-series.

The updated Audi A4 and S4 received a subtly reshaped grille that brings the A4 range in-line with the brand’s latest styling, along with the German carmaker’s new uniform headlight styling.

At the rear, the A4 benefits from reshaped taillights that closely match the units at the front of the car, as well as a restyled lower bumper and diffuser. The interior of the A4 models has also been refined, featuring new steering wheel choices and an improved MMI infotainment system.

The performance of the A4’s engine range has been improved by adding more power and torque despite an average fuel consumption drop of 11 per cent across the range and a reduction in CO2 emissions.

Most interesting is the Audi S4, available in the Saloon and Avant versions which employs the most powerful engine in the line – the 3.0 TFSI with 333hp and 440Nm torque. The saloon can achieve 8L/100km (35.3mpg) despite impressive acceleration of 0 to 100km/h in 5.0 seconds – an increase of 0.1 seconds compared to the previous S4 – and an electronically-limited maximum speed of 250km/h.

The modified Audi S4 is identifiable from the changes to the headlights, the bumpers, the air inlets and colours. The interior also contains subtle changes in appearance. Audi has also equipped the S4 with an S sport suspension and 18 inch wheels.

The updated A4 and S4 go on sale in February, exactly the same month as the launch of the new BMW 3 Series.
