SLS 63 AMG GT3

First the official release of the SLS AMG, then the release of the safety car manufactured for Formula 1. Mercedes-Benz is now presenting another member in the new ‘Gullwing’ family, the SLS 63 AMG GT3, ready to enter the FIA GT3 competition.

The GT3 version distinguishes itself by the use of very light materials. Under the hood you will find the same 6.3 liter V8 as in the road car. The top speed of this race car exceeds 300km/h (188mph) and the 100km/h (62mph) barrier will be reached in just 3.8 seconds. Specs and power figures for the car still aren’t finalized.

The SLS 63 AMG GT3 will go on sale in the Autumn this year and will be delivered to the customers right before the start of the 2011 racing season. Main differences are a huge rear wing and canards up front, providing more downforce. The car is lighter with a deleted passenger seat and extensive use of carbon fiber. The final adjustments are central locking wheels, cheramic brakes on all of the four wheels, an engine bay vent in the hood and a full underbody aerodynamics treatment. To garantee safety there are new head and neck amplifications and a roll cage.

We can’t wait to see this beast moving around a circuit! Stay tuned for more because it will make its world debut in Oaxaca, Mexico this week!
