Spyshots: 2011 Mercedes-Benz CLS

Mercedes CLS AMG Spyshots

As one of the founding pillars of the four-door supercar phenomenon, the Mercedes-Benz CLS was one of the most important new cars when it came out in Autumn 2004. Since this time, the coupé look has been mimicked by many companys, take the VW Passat CC, Jaguar XF or Porsche Panamera as examples. It seems that Mercedes have now turned their focus back to the CLS and intend to refresh it some time next year.

These photos show what looks like an AMG variant undergoing testing in wet conditions. It’s widely suspected that these shots show the E63 version of the Saloon Coupé, likely to feature a V8 engine tuned to a figure of 525bhp. The quad exhausts and extra engine ventilation are the main reason for this assumption.

Mercedes have done a brilliant job of hiding the CLS’s true shape so we know very little about what changes they have in store. We do know, from seeing previous spyshots, that the Luxury four-door will feature a wider wheel base, possibly shared with the latest S-Class.

We’ll let you know more about the 2011 CLS as the informationi is revealed.
