It has been confirmed that Fast and Furious 8, currently dubbed Fast 8, will be directed by Felix Gary Gray most recently responsible for directing Straight Outta Compton.
Gary Gray has previously directed Law Abiding Citizen as well as The Italian Job in 2003. In Vin Diesel’s hunt for a new director, Gary Gray was long considered a front runner. Gary Gray will replace Justin Lin who directed Furious 7 but was unable to sign on for the eighth instalment because of other commitments.
Fast 8 has been tentatively pencilled in for a theatrical release on April 14 2017 and will be the first of the final trilogy of Fast and Furous movies. We know that the new film will be set in New York with Vin Diesel, Dywane Johnson and Jason Statham having already been confirmed for the film. The rest of the Fast crew is expected to return and there’s also a possibility that Cody Walker, the brother of the late Paul Walker, will also play a role in the film.
