Rolls-Royce boss Torsten Muller Otvos has revealed that the company’s ultra-luxurious SUV will be launched towards the end of 2018.

While speaking with Auto Express at the IAA Frankfurt Motor Show 2015, Otvos hinted that the car could adopt the Cullinan name currently being used as its codename. The name refers to the world’s largest rough diamond. Otvos also revealed his confidence that when launched, the Rolls-Royce SUV will be the best in the world.

“The Bentley SUV is clearly the number two; Rolls-Royce is the best in the world and will be when our model arrives. We will bring a great new car, and an authentic Rolls Royce into the market,” he said.

Underpinning the Rolls-Royce Cullinan will be an entirely new aluminium architecture. Of course, the car will also feature a completely bespoke suspension system and already, the first prototypes have been spied undergoing testing.

When the car arrives, it is speculated that up to 1500 units could be sold annually around the world. To put that into comparison, Rolls-Royce managed to sell 4000 cars consisting of the Phantom, Ghost and Wraith last year so the SUV is pinned to become its most prolifically produced model.
