Surpassing the Volkswagen Golf R we saw last year, the Volkswagen Golf R 400 Concept demonstrates the potential for the versatile Golf platform. To be frank, it is a Volkswagen Golf on acid!<\/p>\n<p>Based on the standard Golf R hatchback, the R 400 Concept shares the same 2.0 litre four-cylinder engine and 4MOTION four-wheel drive system. The Golf R 400 Concept is pumped up considerably with an extra 100 hp and 70 Nm of torque. Full figures are 400 hp together with 450 Nm of torque available from 2,400 to 6,000 rpm. <\/p>\n<p>The concept was developed by Volkswagen R GmbH, the arm responsible for high-power and customisation projects. The extra power of the Golf R 400 helps propel the car, with its six-speed DSG gearbox, from rest to 62 mph in just 3.9 seconds. Thats a whole second faster than the Volkswagen Golf R. power, the Golf R 400 features a new turbocharger with a higher maximum charge pressure and reinforced crankcase. Variable valve control with dual camshaft adjustment helps to improve economy and performance.<\/p>\n<p>At 1,420 kg, the Golf R 400 weighs the same as the standard Golf R. The bodykit is more outlandish though. With 20 mm added to each side, the flared wheel arches make its potential obvious. It gets a carbon fibre splitter together with an \u2018R\u2019 badge fitted to the gloss black radiator grille. The style goes well with the \u2018Lemon Yellow\u2019 elements. At the rear, two centrally mounted exhaust pipes hark back to the 2002 Golf R32 and a black double spoiler with LED brake lights atop the tailgate finishes the look.<\/p>\n<p>Inside are motorsport shell seats with integrated head restraints and belt openings. These are upholstered in cross-quilted panels covered in Alcantara, and \u2018carbon leather\u2019, as are the two individual rear seats. Stitching throughout the interior is in contrasting \u2018Lemon Yellow\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>There are no plans to see the 2015 Volkswagen Golf R 400 Concept into production.
