Mercedes-Benz<\/a> has revealed that it is working on a variant of the recently-launched GLC with a hydrogen fuel cell powertrain.<\/p>\n

While speaking with Autocar recently, the head of research and development for Mercedes-Benz, Thomas Weber said that the engineering parameters for the car have been finalised with a market launch expected to come within the next two years.<\/p>\n

The new car is pinned to be dubbed the Mercedes-Benz GLC F-Cell and should be revealed at the IAA Frankfurt Motor Show in 2017 before hitting the market in 2018. When launched, the car will make Mercedes-Benz the first of the German trio to have a fuel-cell model on the market with it set to rival the likes of the Honda FCV Clarity and Toyota Mirai.<\/p>\n

While speaking about the car, Weber said \u201cWe are targeting a combined range for the fuel cell and battery of up to 600km [373 miles], along with a refuelling time for the hydrogen tanks of three minutes.\u201d<\/p>\n

Due to the cost of such a model, Weber revealed that it only makes financial sense for a high-end model, rather than a more affordable car like the Mercedes-Benz B-Class.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
