Just after its worldwide debut in Tokyo, the 2016 BMW M4 GTS has been unveiled in North America at the Los Angeles Auto Show 2015. As the name implies, the car is a hardcore variant of the M4 and will be limited to just 700 units globally. We checked it out live.

On an engine front, the twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine has been outfitted with water injection technology, just like the BMW M4 MotoGP Safety Car. Thanks to this technology as well as a range of other engine modifications, power rises from 425 hp up to 493 hp (500 PS). Additionally, torque now sits at 442 lb-ft meaning the 2016 BMW M4 GTS can accelerate to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds and onto a limited 305 km/h top speed.

Other key elements of the vehicle include the exclusive M alloy wheels taken straight from the M4 GTS Concept. They are then wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres measuring 265/35 at the front and 285/20 at the rear. The M4 GTS also comes equipped with LED headlights and for the first time in a production car, OLED taillights.
