At the Geneva Motor Show 2015 in March, Koenigsegg shocked the world by unveiling the Regera hypercar made particularly noteworthy for its advanced hybrid powertrain and the lack of a transmission. Now the Swedish marque has released a clip showing another bespoke feature of the Regera dubbed ‘Autoskin’.

Autoskin has essentially been designed to allow owners to display the Regera in all its glory with the front and rear luggage compartments and the driver and passenger doors open. Normally, the owner would have to lift all these elements by hand by with Autoskin, all can be opened at the press of a button on a remote.

The system utilises a selection of lightweight hydraulics to raise the front and rear clamshells and the doors. Particularly impressive are the new remote-operated doors of the Regera which now include proximity sensors to effortlessly open the doors and lower the windows. Interestingly, the doors can be opened remotely individually or together.

Discussing the technology, Christian von Koenigsegg said “People often comment on our cars looking spectacular when all the doors of the vehicle are open. Our new Autoskin system enhances this, adding a new level of beauty, practicality and sophistication to the most exciting new hypercar in the world – the Koenigsegg Regera.”

The advanced direct drive powertrain of the Regera incorporates a large 5.0-litre V8 engine delivering 1100 hp. It is then coupled to three YASA developed electric motors, one for each rear wheel (260 Nm’s each) and one at the crankshaft (300 Nm’s) providing torque vectoring, regenerative braking and torque fill.
