As standard, the BMW M4 and BMW M5 are quite evenly matched with both accelerating to 100 km/h in the low 4 second region. At the most recent Unlim 500+ drag racing event in Russia however, a tuned M4 and tuned M5 were pitted together and the results are quite close.
On paper, the modified M5 pumps out a total of 800 hp while the M4 makes do with ‘only’ 550 hp. While the M4 is significantly less powerful, it does weigh about 300 kg less than the M5 so it does give the M5 a run for its money. As a matter of fact, it is only 0.4 seconds slower across the quarter mile than its bigger brother and about 0.5 seconds slower at the end of 1000 m.
