Images and details about the upcoming BMW X4 M40i have just leaked online. As the name implies, the car comes from the German marque’s M division and will top out the BMW X4 range.

Beneath the skin, the X4 M40i is powered by a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six cylinder engine delivering an impressive 355 hp and 343 lb-ft of torque. Those figures represent a 54 hp and 48 lb-ft gain over the current X4 xDrive35i which acts as the halo X4 variant at the moment. It is reported that this same engine will be installed into the upcoming BMW M2 sports car.

The engine is coupled with an eight-speed automatic transmission driving all four wheels via the firm’s xDrive all-wheel drive system. This will see the model accelerate to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds as well as an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h.

Distinguishing the X4 M40i from other X4 models complete with an M Sport styling package are the grey accents on the front air intake surrounds, wing mirrors and part of the rear bumper. Inside, the car comes complete with a new sports steering wheel.
